Recipe: Dirty Green Coffee
No need to order off of the "secret menu" when you can enjoy this coffee shop-style drink at home! Learn the ways of the barista and create our version of a dirty matcha and espresso fusion recipe but with nutritious Golden Aojiru. With a taste similar to matcha tea, Golden Aojiru can be used in place of matcha tea powder to create this beautifully layered latté. Make it dirty by topping off with hot espresso.
YIELD: one 16-oz drink
1 packet Golden Aojiru young barley grass powder
1/4 cup cold water
1 tbsp vanilla syrup
1/2 cup cold milk
1/4 cup hot espresso
1 cup ice cubes
In a 16-oz glass, mix Golden Aojiru, water, and syrup.
Add ice cubes, then slowly pour milk over the ice cubes, creating a second layer.
To create the third layer, slowly pour the hot espresso over the ice.
Serve immediately while the layers are separate. Sip through the layers or enjoy with a straw and a stir!
Simple syrup or other flavored syrup can be used.
This is a mildly sweet drink. For a sweeter drink, add more syrup to the Golden Aojiru or to the milk. The denser liquids will sink to the bottom.
Any kind of milk may be used, however, the layering results will vary.
Pouring directly over an ice cube helps to slow the pour and create a distinct layer.
